There is a solution to go back travelling, in the post-Covid-19 era: allowing flight companies, another industry overwhelmed by the pandemic crisis, to verify that all travellers would be Coronavirus negative. The International Air Transport Association just announced the IATA Travel Pass. This permit is a global certification, providing to Governments safe information on passengers’ health and allowing travellers to know tests, vaccines and other safety measures required before travelling. Also, the platform informs its users on how to get all information, in addition to sharing the final results. All this in respect of data and personal privacy.
Thanks to the travellers’ health information, collected before every flight, on a platform called Travel Pass, it will be possible to safely reopen countries’ borders, saying farewell to the mandatory quarantine.
“Quick tests are the first key to allow international travel with no quarantine – affirms Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s General Director and CEO. The second key is the global structure to manage, share and safely verify tests assigned to passengers, based on required checks. IATA Travel Pass will manage all this information, which will be seen in the market in the upcoming months”.

Four Modules
IATA’s Travel Pass is a global and standardised solution to set and verify all national guidelines for passengers, regarding Covid-19. IATA Travel Pass involves four open-source modules which can be combined for an end-to-end solution.
- Registry of Health Requirements: it allows passengers to find reliable information on travelling, tests and vaccination.
- Registry of Testing/Vaccination Centres: it allows passengers to identify test labs following their destination’s standards.
- Lab App: it allows labs and test centres to share test certificates and vaccination to passengers safely.
- Contactless Travel App: it allows passengers to create a “digital passport”; receiving test and vaccination certificates, and verifying they are following their destination’s standards: sharing test or vaccination certificates with flight companies and authorities; managing digital documents with no issues during their journey.
IATA and IAG (International Airlines Group) collaborated on this solution. They will test the platform for reopening international travel and substituting the currently mandatory quarantine. More information here.
